Job Vacancy – Office Manager or Senior Accounts staff
This is an exciting opportunity to work within Michael J Dodden & Co Chartered Certified Accountants. We are an all-round accounting firm who deal with a range of clients from sole traders up to limited companies. The position is due to the continued amount of new clients as well as anticipated increase in workload from April 2026 due to the Making Tax Digital changes.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior accounts staff member or Office manager to join our team in Bridgwater. This would be a full-time job with hours of 9am until 5pm (1-hour lunch) Monday to Friday. Your responsibilities would include the following –
- Accounts – Preparation / Review of annual accounts for sole trader, partnership and limited company clients using Sage accounting software.
- Management accounts and bookkeeping – Maintaining clients’ accounting records from information and explanations provided and preparation of regular management accounts on various types of software.
- VAT returns – Review of quarterly VAT returns from information supplied by clients.
- Corporation Tax returns – Preparation / Review of corporation tax returns using Sage software.
- Making Tax Digital – Setting up / training / giving advice to clients in relation to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and Self-Assessment ahead of the April 2026
- Personal Tax returns – Preparation / Review of personal tax returns using Sage software.
- Other professional service roles – various jobs due to our accountancy practice being an all-round firm providing a lot of different services to many clients in different sectors.
Essential Skills:
- At least 2 years’ experience in Practice, ideally 5 plus years.
- ACCA / ACA Qualified – required for Office manager
- AAT Qualified – required for senior accounts staff
- Good IT skills, including experience of using different accounting packages or systems. (E.g. Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent)
- Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Confident communicator, able to liaise with clients and colleagues at all levels.
- Previous experience of managing a team – required for Office manager
Package
- Full Time – 35 hours a week
